Create an Endnote Frame

Endnote frames are used for inserting an automatically numbered endnote section. Each parent (formerly master) page that is defined in a Typefi Endnote Section must contain an Endnote Frame (see Typefi Section types).

Typefi Designer builds on InDesign’s native endnote feature and is compatible with the standard Microsoft Word endnote feature. During the automated page composition process, endnote markers in the source content are transformed into InDesign endnote markers. The Endnote Frames are then populated with the endnote text (as specified in the Endnote Options dialogue), creating new document pages and filling these frames, until all the endnote content is placed.

Since Typefi Endnote Sections are generated in the last step of the page composition process, the first Main Story Section following an Endnote Section is forced to start on an odd-numbered page and does not allow pages to ‘shuffle.’ As a result, a filler parent page may be inserted after an Endnote Section.

To create an Endnote Frame:

1. In InDesign, open the Pages panel (Window → Pages) and select a parent page.
2. Create a text frame and select it.
   
3. Choose Object → Typefi Frame Type → Endnote. Alternatively, right-click (Windows) or Control-click (macOS) the selected frame and choose Typefi Frame Type → Endnote from the shortcut menu. The Endnote Frame border is assigned a colour (red by default).
   

You can also specify the numbering style, appearance, and layout of endnotes:

1. Open the Endnote Options dialogue (Type → Document Endnote Options) and specify the options as necessary to format the endnote section. See Change endnote numbering and layout for detailed information.
   
2. Select OK to apply the settings to your template.
