Having trouble checking in your Typefi Writer document? It happens, especially with error messages or a lost network connection. Don’t worry! This article guides you through step-by-step instructions to manually check in a Writer document in Typefi Server.
1. Find the file path on your computer
When checking out a Writer document from Typefi Server, it is saved locally on your computer. To manually check it back in, you must first find the file path leading up to the document's location, excluding the filename.
Follow these steps:
- Select File in the Microsoft Word ribbon.
- Select Info in the File pane.
- Click Open File location in the Info dialog. This opens File Explorer to the location of the checked out document.
- Place the cursor in the File Explorer address bar, then copy (Ctrl + C) the file path leading up to the filename*.
*Avoid using "Copy Path" or "Copy Local Path" in the Info dialog or the "Copy" button in File Explorer, as these paths include the checked out filename. These methods will lead to an error preventing check-in, with the message: You can't open this location using this program. Please try a different location.
- Minimise File Explorer, then return to your Typefi document in Microsoft Word.
- Close the Word document (necessary for the check in process) and minimise Word.
2. Manually check in a Writer document in Typefi Server
Ensure the Word document is closed; you cannot check in an open document.
- Open your web browser, go to Typefi Server, and find the Word document you want to check in. For example:
Files/2024/Projects/My great publication/Content/Example_Checked_Out_Document.docx.
- Click the slider icon.
- Click Check in. (This will open File Explorer).
- Place the cursor in the File Explorer address bar, paste (Ctrl + V) the file path, and press Enter.
If you get the error message: "You can't open this location using this program. Please try a different location" Follow these steps:
- Ensure the Word document is closed.
- Confirm that the file path does not include the filename of the checked out document.
Correct file path example: C:\Users\tgonzales\Documents\Typefi\cloud_typefi_net\2024\Projects\My great publication\Content
- Select the document and click Open (This opens an Upload dialog in Typefi Server).
- Click Upload. (Optional): Add a version comment.
Manually delete the document on your computer
- Open File Explorer.
- Select the document you checked in.
- Delete the document. (This ensures you check out the latest version in Typefi Server.)
