If you don't see the Typefi ribbon in Microsoft Word, make sure you've installed Typefi Writer.
If Typefi Writer is already installed, and you still don't see the Typefi ribbon, then follow the troubleshooting steps for your edition of Typefi Writer. If you're not sure which edition you have, follow the steps in Which edition of Writer am I using?.
I have the 64-bit edition of Typefi Writer
When updating to Microsoft Office 64-bit and installing the 64-bit edition of Typefi Writer, you might see this error message when you open Microsoft Word:
To fix this:
- In Microsoft Word, go to File → Options → Add-ins.
- In the Manage pop-up window (at the bottom of the dialog), choose COM Add-ins and click Go.
- In the COM Add-ins dialog, select TypefiWriterRibbon.
- Click OK.
Still, if the Typefi ribbon is invisible, please follow the steps below:
- In Microsoft Word, go to File → Options → Add-ins.
- In the Manage pop-up window (at the bottom of the dialog), choose Disabled Items and click Go.
- If the TypefiWriterRibbon is in the Disabled Items dialog, click Enable.
I have the 32-bit edition of Typefi Writer
If Typefi Writer is already installed, but you still don't see the Typefi ribbon, check the following:
- You have the 64-bit version of Microsoft Office.
- Typefi Writer was installed using elevated system privileges.
- You have a non-English (or non-Spanish) language version of Microsoft Windows.
You have the 64-bit version of Microsoft Office
The 64-bit version of Office does not support 32-bit add-ins such as Typefi Writer. Unfortunately, you'll need to uninstall the 64-bit version and then re-install both the 32-bit version of Office and Typefi Writer (note: the 32-bit version of Office is automatically installed unless you select the 64-bit version at the beginning of the installation process).
If you're not sure whether you have the 64-bit or 32-bit version of Office, see What version of Office am I using?
Typefi Writer was installed using elevated system privileges
The Typefi Writer add-in (TypefiWriter.dotm) extends the capabilities of Microsoft Word by adding custom commands and specialised features. It is installed in your Startup folder to make sure it's available whenever you start Word. If your corporate security policies require elevated system privileges to install add-ins, the Typefi Writer add-in may have been installed to the wrong Startup folder (that is, under the administrative user's account).
First, verify the location of your Startup folder:
- File → Options → Advanced.
- Scroll down to General, and then click File Locations.
- Note the location listed for Startup (for example,
drive:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\Startup
).
Next, locate and move the Typefi Writer add-in (TypefiWriter.dotm) to your Startup folder:
- Quit Word.
- Open a new File Explorer window.
- Go to
drive:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\Startup
folder where<username>
is the administrative account used to install Typefi Writer. - Copy TypefiWriter.dotm.
- Paste it in your Startup folder.
- Open Word and verify Typefi Writer is now available.
You have a non-English or non-Spanish language version of Microsoft Windows
As noted above, the Typefi Writer add-in (TypefiWriter.dotm) is installed in your Startup folder to make sure it's available whenever you start Word. However, the name of the Startup folder varies depending on your language version of Microsoft Word (for example, the Startup folder for the Danish language version is "START"). When installing Typefi Writer for a non-English or non-Spanish language version of Microsoft Word, the installer will create its own "STARTUP" folder that won't be detected by Microsoft Word.
First, verify the location of your localised Startup folder:
- File → Options → Advanced.
- Scroll down to General, and then click File Locations.
- Note the location listed for Startup.
Next, move the Typefi Writer add-in (TypefiWriter.dotm) to the correct Startup folder:
- Quit Word.
- Open a new File Explorer window.
- Go to the Startup folder created by Typefi Writer:
drive:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\Startup
. - Copy TypefiWriter.dotm.
- Paste it in your localised Startup folder (you can safely delete the Startup folder created by Typefi Writer).
- Open Word and verify Typefi Writer is now available.
