The Section prefix is made up of three parts: Text Before, Field, and Text After.
- Text Before and Text After allows for the inclusion of literal text strings (any text you want).
- The Field value is sourced from either a Typefi Section or a Typefi Project Field value.
During page composition, the Section prefix value is inserted as: Text Before + Typefi Field data + Text After + Current Page Number.
To specify the Section prefix:
- Open the Typefi Section panel (Window → Typefi → Sections).
- Open the Typefi Section Options dialogue: select the name of a Typefi Section, then go to Panel menu → Section Options. Alternatively, double-click the name of a Typefi Section.
- In the Section Prefix row:
- Enter any text you want in the Text Before field.
- Choose a Typefi Field from the Field pop-up menu.
- Enter any text you want in the Text After field.
- Click OK.
Remember to include spaces after Text Before and Text After if you want space between that text and the following text.
Example
This Section prefix is configured to add the text "Chapter from " (including a space after "from") + the content of the BookTitle Typefi Field + the text ", page " (again including a space after "page"). The page number comes last.
Here's the result on a Chapter page:
The running header is made of the:
- BookTitle Typefi Field,
- a | character,
- an InDesign Text Variable that's picking up the chapter title,
- an em space,
- a bullet,
- another em space,
- and finally the "page number", which consists of the entire string of text "Chapter from Hello World!, page 3".
Here's the result in the Table of Contents:
Note that the entire "page number" is included.
Here's a more common example:
The Section prefix is configured to add the contents of the ChapterNumber Typefi Field, followed by a dash, then the page number.
Here's the result on a Chapter page:
