Using style names containing colons (for example, Para:body) may cause issues such as inconsistent styling, incorrect application of styles, or missing information when exporting or repurposing an Adobe InDesign document with Typefi.
Why style names cannot contain colons
Typefi’s workflow action, for example, Adobe InDesign plug-in → Export to CXML, flattens InDesign style groups for compatibility with file formats like DOCX—which doesn’t natively support style groups. Typefi’s engine interprets the colons as separators for style groups and, as a result, removes the colon (and any characters before it) when flattening. For example, the style name Para:body
becomes body
.
Solution
To maintain the integrity of your documents, we recommend avoiding the use of colons in Adobe InDesign style names for your Typefi-ready templates and input.cxml files. For more helpful tips, please see our help article: Paragraph and character styles tips.
