Beginning with version 42 of the Adobe InDesign plug-in, you can use the script label skip-spill-event
to override the use of Spill end scripts for individual Typefi Elements in a template.
Several Typefi script modules, such as conditional spacing, conditional keeps, and advanced GREP styles, run at the Spill end event—which reads the story from the Content XML, formats it, and places it in a text frame. This process is important to ensure seamless workflows and optimal output.
However, some elements in a Typefi template don't need to trigger the Spill end scripts. For example, you can skip the Spill end scripts in these and similar situations:
- ApplyGrep script: If you use an ApplyGrep script at Spill end but don't need GREP for your running header frames
- Inline elements: If you use many inline elements in your document design and you want to prevent them from triggering multiple Spill end scripts
Applying an override to skip the Spill end scripts for specific elements reduces processing time.
Apply the script label
To apply the script label, follow these steps:
- Open the Typefi template you want to modify.
- Navigate to the parent page, then locate the Typefi element on which you want to skip the Spill end scripts (for example, a header or footer).

- With the Typefi Element selected, open the Script Label panel (Windows → Utilities → Script Label).
- Enter
skip-spill-event
in the Script Label panel's text field.
Tip: Copy and paste theskip-spill-event
text to quickly apply it to the remaining Typefi Elements where you want to skip the Spill end scripts. - Repeat steps 2-5 for each Typefi element where you want to skip the Spill end scripts on the remaining parent pages.
- Once you've applied the script label to all necessary elements, save the template.
