Metadata is “data about data”. In Typefi Writer, you can insert and manage metadata within paragraphs.
Metadata tags are the custom Typefi tags inserted in Microsoft Word that are not generally visible to regular Typefi Writer users. Each metadata tag structure includes a start tag, { MACROBUTTON TPS_Meta}
, metadata content, and an end tag { MACROBUTTON TPS_MetaEnd }
.
View metadata in Typefi Document Explorer
In Typefi Writer 8.9 or later (64-bit edition), the Typefi Document Explorer dialogue includes a Metadata category, where you can view a list of all metadata in your document.
If the metadata tag structure is missing a tag or contains a duplicate, an error message will appear at the bottom of the dialogue.
Example: Messages: Invalid metadata tag structure detected. For more detail, see Resolving invalid metadata tag structures.
Best practice: Insert metadata content directly in Typefi Writer. Avoid copying and pasting content into Word that contains metadata from other sources. For more detail, see Metadata in Typefi Writer.
Fix invalid metadata tag structures
To fix the error, manually delete the incorrect metadata and replace it with the correct format.
1. Delete metadata tag
To delete the metadata tag:
- Click Show/hide Field Codes(Typefi Ribbon → Tags) to make Field Codes viewable in your document.
- Highlight the invalid metadata tags (including the metadata text).
- Press Delete to remove the metadata tags and their text.
Next, reinsert the metadata with the correct structure. Do not copy and paste from another source.
2. Reinsert metadata tag
To reinsert metadata:
- Click Show/hide field codes to turn Field Codes off. (You cannot edit Typefi components by double-clicking them when Field Codes are shown.)
- Position your cursor where you want to insert metadata.
- Click Metadata (Typefi ribbon → Insert group → Metadata), then choose Insert Metadata.
- Click Click here and type text and enter your custom metadata. (Do not copy and paste from another source).
