7 February 2023
Shortly after the release of Typefi Server 8.8 on 17 January 2023, Typefi became aware of a bug that impacted Typefi Writer users. We quickly identified the problem and released a fix with Typefi Server 8.9 on 7 February 2023. We recommend all Typefi Server users upgrade from 8.7 or earlier directly to Server 8.9.
Typefi Server 8.8 workflow actions that use certain workflow variables—variables that include a colon separator (for example, ${input:first})—caused Typefi Writer to display an error message when opening or publishing an existing Typefi Word document. This error could also occur when attaching these workflows to a new Word document.
Who is affected?
This issue affects Typefi Writer users (both 32-bit and 64-bit editions) that connect to Typefi Server 8.8. If you don’t use Typefi Writer, or your Typefi Server is not version 8.8, you are not affected by this bug.
Is there a workaround?
This issue only affected Typefi Writer users (both 32-bit and 64-bit) that connected to Typefi Server 8.8. This issue has been resolved in Typefi Server 8.9, released 7 February 2023.
If you updated to Typefi Server 8.8 and have not yet updated to Server 8.9, you may simply dismiss the error message by clicking OK when it appears after opening or publishing an existing document from Typefi Writer (both 32-bit and 64-bit editions).
If you were instead attempting to attach a workflow to a new Word document, you would need to duplicate an existing Word document (that already has the desired workflow attached) and then copy-paste your content from the new Word document into that copy. But our recommendation is to update to Typefi Server 8.9, which directly addresses this bug’s root cause.
What is Typefi doing to address this?
Typefi investigated the issue and quickly identified the root cause. We implemented a fix and released Typefi Server 8.9 on 7 February 2023. Typefi Server 8.9 is now available for download for Typefi Workgroup and Typefi Desktop customers and will be deployed to Typefi Cloud Bronze servers on 12 February 2023. Typefi Cloud Gold customers that haven’t updated to Server 8.8 will be updated directly to Server 8.9.
What actions should I take?
Typefi Cloud Bronze will be updated to Server 8.9 on 12 February 2023.
We recommend that Typefi on-premises (Workgroup and Desktop) customers—that haven’t already updated—to instead update directly to Server 8.9 (skipping Server 8.8). If you have already updated to Server 8.8, we apologise for the inconvenience and request that you update to Server 8.9 at your earliest convenience.
Typefi Server 8.8 will not be offered as an update for Typefi Cloud Gold customers. To schedule your update from Server 8.7 (or earlier) to Server 8.9, please contact us.
