Overview
- When entering text into a multi-column text frame in Adobe InDesign, it can be a battle trying to get the text to ‘balance’—that is, getting the columns to be of equal length.
- With Typefi AutoFit, you don't have to manually resize the text frame to make your columns even—let AutoFit do the work for you.
Step-by-step instructions
- Select the text frame that contains the columns you want to balance.
- Open the Typefi AutoFit panel (Window → Typefi → AutoFit).
- Select the Balance Columns checkbox.
Troubleshooting
Do not select Balance Columns on Main Story Frames. Because Typefi attempts many different page layouts during composition, InDesign will attempt to balance every version. This will dramatically slow down your jobs. If you need the last page of a section to be balanced, or want customised page balancing that goes beyond what InDesign does ‘naturally’, you can have a JavaScript written (talk to your Solutions Consultant).
