This article applies only to customers who have purchased a MathTools license through Typefi.
Adobe InDesign and InDesign Server only support MathML, a specification for encoding both the presentation of mathematical notation and mathematical content through a third-party plug-in, movemen MathTools. MathTools provides built-in equation editor functionality—equations are expressed as fully editable text, not inline images—and MathML import and export features.

Typefi and MathTools ↩
Typefi is pleased to partner with movemen to provide you with solutions for typesetting complex math equations. We will always do our best to support you in using MathTools, but please be aware that we are limited in our abilities regarding bug fixes or feature requests. Though we work closely with the developers at movemen, their product roadmap is under their discretion.
Which version of MathTools do I need? ↩
Typefi Server for Workgroup requires the Enterprise version of MathTools for InDesign Server. (MathTools Pro doesn't include the necessary scripting support for integration with Typefi Server workflows.)
Client licenses for MathTools for InDesign (local to your computer) should be licensed depending on your use. Anyone working on InDesign templates for Typefi should have at least the MathTools Pro version. If you need to edit equations locally in InDesign after Typefi's automated page composition process is complete, you could use either MathTools Pro or MathTools Enterprise. If you planned to manipulate the composed equations using InDesign scripts locally, you need a local license for MathTools Enterprise.
If you are not planning on editing equations locally at all, you can use MathTools Reader (free download available on the MathTools website).

Troubleshooting ↩
My MathTools license stopped working
If your MathTools license stopped working, first make sure you are using the latest version of MathTools. (Download the latest installation package from the MathTools Download Area.) When upgrading, confirm that you have copied over your existing license file into the movemen/lic
folder. If you do not copy your existing license file, your new version of MathTools will not be activated.
If the license still won't activate, complete these troubleshooting steps:
- Close and reopen InDesign.
- Choose Math → Licensing → Verify License.
- Close and reopen InDesign again.
- Verify that MathTools is activated: create a new document and choose Math → Enable Math for Current Document.
If the license still won't activate, close and reopen InDesign again. Create a license report (Math → Licensing → Create License Report) and send it to help@typefi.com.
