This article is a guide for administrators on how to manage allowed file types and troubleshoot upload errors caused by unsupported files.
Allowed file types
Allowed File Types (formerly known as Whitelisted file types in Typefi Server 8.17 or earlier) are the specific file formats that your team is permitted to upload within Typefi Server. This feature helps you maintain a secure and controlled environment for managing files.
Receive an error message about unsupported file types? Check out the Troubleshooting section for details on how to resolve the issue.
Managing allowed file types
Administrators can manage allowed file types in the Typefi Filestore (Typefi Server → Admin → Filestore).
When you install Typefi Server, a default list of file extensions is available in the Allowed File Types field. An administrator can customise this list by adding or removing file types.
Adding allowed file types
To add allowed file types:
- Type the desired file extensions, separated by a comma (for example,
indd, indb, zip), in the Allowed File Types field. - Click Save to apply your changes.
Removing allowed file types
To remove allowed file types:
- Delete the extensions you want to remove from the list.
- Click Save to apply your changes.
Restoring default file types
If you need to reset the list to the original defaults, you can select the Restore Defaults button. This restores the default list and adds any new default file types available in the latest Server release.
Custom file types: Using the Restore Defaults button will remove any custom file types you've added. We're working to fix this and will release an update that preserves your custom list while adding new default file types. In a future update, we’ll also include a visual cue to let you know when new default file types are available.
Troubleshooting: Unsupported file types
Typefi Server v8.18 or later
If you attempt to upload or unpack one or more files with unsupported file types, you will see the following message in the Upload dialog.
The following file types are not on the allowed list and will not be uploaded. To upload only allowed file types, click Continue.
There are several options to consider before proceeding:
Option 1: Continue uploading only the allowed file types.
To upload the files that are on the allowed list, click Continue in the Upload dialog. Typefi Server will ignore the unsupported file types and proceed with the rest of your upload.
Option 2: Find a supported alternative.
Convert the unsupported file type(s) to an alternative format that's already on the allowed list.
Option 3: Add the missing file types to the allowed list
If you need to upload a file with an unsupported type, an administrator may update the Allowed File Type list.
Follow these steps:
- Note the file extension(s) listed in the Upload dialog, then click Cancel.
- An administrator must follow the steps in the Adding allowed file types section to add those extensions to the list.
- Save your changes, then attempt to upload the file(s) again.
Typefi Server v8.17 or earlier
If you attempt to upload or unpack one or more files with unsupported file types, you will see a message in the Upload dialog informing you that unsupported file types were found. A list of unsupported file types is available in the file_exception.txt file, located at the root directory of your upload location.
