Typefi Writer 8.9 or later (64-bit edition) includes a workflow option to validate your index entries. This article will explain how to turn on the Validate index entries option and how to view and locate index validation errors in your Word document.

Prerequisites
- Use Typefi Writer 8.9 or later (64-bit edition)
- Typefi Writer is connected to a Typefi Server, and a workflow is attached.
- Your document includes an index.
Turn on the workflow option: Validate index entries
The setting to validate index entries is off by default. To turn on this setting, follow these steps:
- Click Options in the Typefi ribbon to open the Typefi Writer Options dialog.
- Click the Workflow options tab in the Typefi Writer Options dialog.
- Check the box Validate index entries under When publishing a document.
- Click OK. You can now view and validate index entries in Typefi Document Explorer (Typefi →Explore Document).

Before proceeding, if you don’t see the XE fields, such as, { XE "Text" [switches]}
in your document, click Show/Hide ¶ in the Paragraph group on the Home tab.
To view index entry validation errors, follow these steps:
- Click the Explore Document button in the Typefi Ribbon to open the Typefi Document Explorer dialog.
- In the Categories view, select Index Entries.
- Click an affected Index Entry. (This highlights the entry in your document. Warnings appear in yellow, errors in red, and a message with a help article link is displayed at the bottom of the dialog.)
- Close the Document Explorer with the index entry highlighted.
- Navigate to the affected entry in your document.
- Manually edit the affected index entry; for additional guidance, refer to the Index entry troubleshooting guide.
