Specify a file path

A file path describes the location of a file in Typefi Server. To specify a file path, click the folder icon and choose the file.

You can choose a file already in Typefi Server, or click Browse to choose a file on your computer and upload it to Typefi Server. If you are setting up a workflow when you click Browse, the file is uploaded to the folder containing the workflow.

Alternatively, you can manually enter a file path in an input field.

File path examples

File and folder names and paths cannot exceed 255 characters, start with a period, contain control characters or any of the following characters: * < > : " / | ? ; ! , ^ .

Choosing a file via clicking the folder icon automatically uploads the file to Typefi Server. Manually entering a file path does not—you must upload the file before entering a file path, or Typefi Server cannot access the file.

Specify multiple file paths in a single input field

Some workflow actions, such as Assemble InDesign book, need multiple file paths for a single input field.

v8.6.1 and later: To specify multiple file paths, click the folder icon and choose the files or folder. 

In the dialog, click the checkboxes next to each filename to choose multiple files at once.

Alternatively, enter each file path separated with a comma (,) in an input field; for example, /Input/input-1.indd, /Input/input-2.indd, /Input/input-3.indd. Typefi Server will automatically reformat the file paths you enter into individual files.

If you accidentally add a file you don't need, click the x to the left of the filename.

Specify a file path using workflow variables

You can also use workflow variables as a placeholder for a file path. Workflow variables let you specify file paths dynamically. To add a workflow variable, click the Add variable icon next to an input field, and choose the variable you want from the pop-up menu.

For example, using the ${ask} variable allows you to choose the file path while the job is running.
