Typefi Writer comes in two editions: Writer for the 32-bit version of Microsoft Word and Writer for the 64-bit version of Microsoft Word.
If you have the 32-bit version of Microsoft Word, you must use the 32-bit edition of Typefi Writer; if you have the 64-bit version of Word, you must use the 64-bit edition of Typefi Writer. If you're not sure which Microsoft Office product you have, see What version of Office am I using?
I know which edition of Typefi Writer I want. How do I install it?
To install Typefi Writer, follow the instructions in Install Typefi Writer.
Microsoft Office automatically installs the 64-bit version unless you explicitly choose the 32-bit version before beginning the installation.
If you're still not sure which edition of Typefi Writer—32-bit or 64-bit—is a better choice for you, see the sections below.
Reasons to choose the 64-bit edition of Typefi Writer
- You want to future-proof your publishing workflow: Almost all modern computers you can buy now come with a 64-bit processor. Plus, Microsoft is beginning to phase out 32-bit support for Windows 10—beginning in May 2020, Microsoft no longer allows hardware vendors to make new computers with 32-bit processors.
- You want to take advantage of 64-bit technology to enable quicker processing: In general, 64-bit applications have more resources than 32-bit applications. The processors in 64-bit applications can handle more data at once, which means it can access over four billion times the physical memory of a 32-bit processor.
- You want to apply paragraph and character styles faster: The 64-bit edition of Typefi Writer is completely re-written from the ground up, using the C# .NET programming language instead of Visual Basic. C# .NET enabled our developers to add new features—such as the floating paragraph and character styles panels—which means you can tag your content faster, with less potential for errors. See this video for a quick demonstration:
Reasons to choose the 32-bit edition of Typefi Writer
- You are using the 32-bit version of Microsoft Word.
With the release of the 64-bit edition of Typefi Writer, the 32-bit edition is now deprecated. Although the 32-bit edition is still available, we no longer actively support it and recommend you upgrade to the 64-bit edition. For more information, see the Typefi product support lifecycle.
