Use the reference point locator on the Typefi AutoFit panel to specify the direction in which a text frame is resized when an auto-size option is applied (see Auto-size your text frames). Each reference point directly corresponds to the nine selection handles on a bounding box (one in the centre and eight along the perimeter).
When you specify a reference point, its corresponding frame handle is locked so that the text frame grows and shrinks from that position. For example, if you specify the top-left reference point, the text frame will resize from the top-left corner as its content changes. See Typical reference point usage for more examples of how the reference point affects the auto-sizing.
To specify a reference point:
- Select a text frame.
- Open the Typefi AutoFit panel (Window → Typefi → AutoFit), choose an auto-size option, and click on one of the reference points.
The text frame will now grow and shrink from the selected reference point as you add, delete, or edit its content.
TIP Alt-click (Windows) or Option-click (macOS) on an unselected reference point to use the global reference point that is specified in the Transform panel (Window → Object & Layout → Transform).
