Typefi Writer is an add-in for Microsoft Word that makes it easy for you to create structured content for Typefi. There are two editions of Typefi Writer: one for 64-bit operating systems and one for 32-bit operating systems. For more detailed system requirements, see this article.
NOTE Microsoft Office automatically installs the 64-bit version unless you explicitly choose the 32-bit version before beginning the installation.
Typefi Writer for 64-bit operating systems
NOTE Typefi Writer supports 64-bit versions of Microsoft Word 2013 or higher.
NOTE If your workflow includes DOTM files, please contact your Solutions Consultant to install the 64-bit edition of Typefi Writer.
- If you are upgrading from the 32-bit edition Typefi Writer, first uninstall the 32-bit edition of Writer.
To uninstall Writer, right-click the Start button and click Control Panel. Go to Programs and Features (if your Control Panel is in Category view, go to Uninstall a Program). Find Typefi Writer, click it to select it, and then click Uninstall. - Uninstall Microsoft Office.
- Reinstall the 64-bit version of Microsoft 365 or Office 2019.
TIP The 64-bit version is the default version. - Confirm you have the 64-bit of Microsoft Word.
Typefi Writer for 64-bit only works if you have the 64-bit version of Microsoft office. To check which version you are using, follow the instruction in What version of Office am I using? - Access the Typefi FTP.
The Typefi FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is where you can get the latest installer for Typefi Writer. To access the FTP via your web browser, visit https://ftp.typefi.com and sign in using your Typefi credentials. To access the FTP via an FTP Client, use ftp.typefi.com as the server address. If you have credentials to access any of our systems, you can sign in to the FTP and download our software. - Download the latest version of Typefi Writer.
The latest version of Typefi Writer is available within a folder called Typefi_Writer. The Typefi_Writer folder should be one of the first things you see when you sign in to the FTP. NOTE If you do not see the Typefi_Writer folder when you sign in to the FTP, please contact your Solutions Consultant.

After the Typefi Writer installer has completed, start Microsoft Word. A successful installation shows the Typefi tab in the Microsoft Word ribbon, as in the screenshot below.

FAQ
What's the difference between the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Writer?
The 64-bit edition of Writer is completely re-written from the ground up to be compatible with modern 64-bit applications.
The 64-bit edition of Typefi Writer features the same user interface as the 32-bit edition of Writer, with the addition of floating style panels, which means you can apply paragraph and character styles to content significantly faster (with less potential for error too!).

Is Typefi Writer for the 32-bit version of Word still supported? Do I have to upgrade?
The 32-bit edition of Writer is still available but is now deprecated. We recommend you upgrade to the 64-bit edition.
I'm currently using Typefi 8.6.X and want to upgrade to 8.7. Can I still use the 32-bit edition of Writer?
Yes. The edition of Writer you use depends on the version of Microsoft Word you are using. For more information, see Choose between the 64-bit or 32-bit edition of Typefi Writer.
Help! I am receiving an error that the 64-bit edition of Writer cannot be installed.
First, make sure you uninstall Microsoft Office (including any stand-alone Office apps you have such as Project or Visio).
Next, if you were previously using the 32-bit edition of Typefi Writer, make sure you uninstall it. To uninstall Writer, right-click the Start button and click Control Panel. Go to Programs and Features (if your Control Panel is in Category view, go to Uninstall a Program). Find Typefi Writer, click it to select it, and then click Uninstall.
Then, reinstall the 64-bit version of Microsoft Office. TIP The 64-bit version of Office is the default version.
Once the 64-bit version of Office is installed, install the 64-bit edition of Writer again.
