The Validate with XSD workflow action validates an XML document against an XML Schema (XSD), rather than a Document Type Definition (DTD). Use it when the grammar you're validating against is published as an XSD. Errors appear in the job log with line and column coordinates, and the action writes an optional validation report. Pair it with Annotate errors to insert the flagged issues directly into the source document.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Input | Choose the XML document to be validated. |
| XSD | Choose the .xsd file to validate against. If your schema pulls in others with xs:include or xs:import, they're resolved relative to your schema's own location. |
| On error |
Choose how the action reacts to validation errors:
|
| Output | Choose a file to write the validation report to. Optional: if left blank, the action still validates and logs results, it just doesn't write a report file. |
FAQ
Can I validate against more than one schema file?
Yes. A schema that pulls in others with xs:include or xs:import is fully supported—Typefi resolves each one relative to the main schema's own location. A single .xsd file is the expected XSD input; a zipped schema package isn't supported yet.
Can I use a Validate with XSD report with Annotate errors?
Yes, with a plain XML document. Annotate errors accepts a Validate with XSD report and inserts a processing instruction before each offending element. It doesn't accept XSD reports for Content XML (CXML) documents—use Validate with Schematron for CXML instead.
Does Validate with XSD check my document's DOCTYPE declaration?
No. A DOCTYPE declaration is the line at the top of an XML document that names the DTD it was written against. Even if your input document includes one, Validate with XSD doesn't fetch or process it—it validates against the file you specify in the XSD field only.
