Missing attributes in Typefi tags

If you encounter this error message when attempting to open your Typefi Writer document in Word, it’s likely due to document corruption, which can result in missing tag attributes.

Possible causes for missing Typefi tag attributes

Document corruption can occur for various reasons:

• Using incompatible software: Editing and saving a document with software that is not compatible with Microsoft Word can lead to corruption. For example, if a document containing Typefi tags is sent to someone who opens, edits, and saves it in a non-Word application, the document may not open correctly when returned to the original user, resulting in missing tag attributes.

• Editing a Typefi Writer document without Typefi Writer installed: When a Typefi Writer document is edited without Typefi Writer installed, Word treats tags as regular text, which increases the risk of accidental changes or deletions of tag attributes. This can cause errors when the document is reopened in Typefi Writer.

How to fix missing Typefi tag attributes

To help prevent future document corruption, consider applying Typefi tags to a new, blank Word document. Alternatively, you may delete all existing Typefi tags in the affected document and manually replace them with new ones.

Manually replace Typefi tags

1. With the affected document open, go to the Tools group in the Typefi Ribbon and click Explore Document. The Document Explorer dialog will show all Typefi tag errors in red. Since the tag attributes are missing, no additional information will appear.

2. In the Document Explorer, select an affected Typefi tag from the list. The tag’s location in your document will be highlighted.

3. Manually delete the affected Typefi tag by selecting it in your document.

4. Insert the new Typefi tag to replace the deleted one.

5. Repeat these steps for each affected tag until all Typefi tags are replaced.
