For products that are not yet compatible with Big Sur, we have identified a blocker issue with our installers (see Big Sur known issues). We are working on rebuilding our installers to be fully compatible with Big Sur and plan to release them shortly (along with compatibility for InDesign 2021).
As a best practice, we recommend that you run Typefi only in operating systems and hardware platforms as noted in their respective system requirements:
However, if you choose to upgrade to Big Sur before the Typefi compatibility release is available, make sure you have a reliable backup and can restore to your current version in case you run into issues. If possible, upgrade in a test environment to make sure your third-party applications and plug-ins continue to work as expected.
Is Typefi compatible with Apple silicon?
Not yet. Native app compatibility is planned for 2021. Both Adobe and Typefi are committed to making sure our apps are available on Apple devices with the M1 processor, in addition to continued support for Intel and AMD-based systems.
However, there are no known issues specific to running Adobe InDesign 2021 under Rosetta 2. Rosetta 2 is an emulator built into macOS Big Sur (version 11) that allows apps built for Intel chips to run on Apple devices with M1 processors.
To run an app using Rosetta 2 on an Apple silicon device:
- Open Finder and navigate to the app you want to open.
- Control-click the app.
- Select Get Info.
- Select Open in Rosetta.
- Open the app as normal.
NOTE For best results, run all Adobe and Typefi apps only in operating systems and hardware platforms noted in their system requirements.
For more information, see Will Adobe apps work on Apple computers that use the M1 chip?.
- Current installers for Typefi Workgroup, Desktop, Cloud Bronze, and Cloud Gold fail with this error: "The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance". Workaround: Download CharlesSoft Pacifist to open the installer (.dmg) and install. For example, to install Typefi Designer 8.7 for InDesign 2020, open the installer in Pacifist, go to Contents of TypefiDesigner.pkg → Contents of TypefiDesignerCC2020.pkg, and click Install.
