World-leading automation for content production teams
Typefi is an automated publishing platform. It utilises Adobe InDesign Server to intelligently render complex layouts using dynamic InDesign templates and design-driven techniques.
Typefi helps organisations around the world publish content in more formats—and up to 80% faster—without compromising on design or content integrity.
Our patented AI technology seamlessly integrates with Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe InDesign Server, enabling varied and complex layouts, sophisticated typographical composition, and flawlessly-crafted design—any format, any device—at the click of a button.
Typefi is flexible, scalable, and built to handle almost anything, from simple newsletters through to the most complex textbooks and journals.
Introducing our automated publishing platform
There are three scalable versions of our automated publishing platform: Typefi Cloud, Typefi Workgroup, and Typefi Desktop.
Typefi Cloud is our cloud-based platform. It features world-class security and offers instant access to upgrades and new features. Best of all, we manage all the infrastructure, so you don’t have to. 👍
Typefi Workgroup is our scalable multi-user enterprise platform for larger organisations and teams. It’s designed for larger publishers, businesses, and corporations.
Typefi Desktop is our single-user platform for small to medium organisations.
NOTE For a complete listing of all of the different features for Typefi Cloud, Workgroup, and Desktop, see Products and Services.
No matter which version you use—Typefi Cloud, Typefi Workgroup, or Typefi Desktop—they all use our same core software—Typefi Server, Typefi Writer, and Typefi Designer—to help you do more.
Typefi Server
Typefi Server is the hub of our automated publishing platform. It provides access to all your InDesign templates, documents, workflows, and projects through your web browser.
Typefi Server is supplemented by a growing suite of over 30 workflow plug-ins that you can use to build your perfect publishing workflow. For example, you can use Typefi workflows to:
- transform native Microsoft Word documents into engaging Adobe InDesign layouts
- generate PDFs optimised for accessibility and interactivity
- convert between different "flavours" of XML
Typefi Writer
Typefi Writer is an add-in for Microsoft Word that makes it easy for authors to create structured content with XML (Extensible Markup Language). With just a couple of clicks, Typefi applies the structured content to professional Adobe InDesign templates and converts it into your preferred output format so you can see what the publication will look like in its final form.
There is no need for authors to understand XML or Adobe InDesign – Typefi will automatically generate a professionally-designed final product within minutes.
Typefi Designer
Typefi Designer is a suite of tools that utilises Adobe InDesign—the world’s most-used professional publishing tool—to transform regular InDesign documents into files that you can use in a Typefi automated publishing workflow.
When you start exploring automated publishing, you’ll hear, or have heard of, the term template. A template is a file that holds all the styling information to be applied to the raw content. The type of template file can differ, depending on the type of content being processed.
A Typefi-ready template is an InDesign document that contains Typefi markup for use in a Typefi automated publishing workflow. Typefi Designer allows publishers to quickly and easily upgrade existing InDesign documents to Typefi-ready InDesign templates, without requiring designers to learn new tools or complex coding.
NOTE A Typefi-ready template is not the same as an InDesign template file (.indt). An INDT file is a page layout template for designing pages in InDesign, which is typically used when creating multiple pages with a similar format. A Typefi-ready template is an InDesign document (.indd) that contains Typefi markup.
With Typefi Designer, designers and layout artists can create InDesign templates for Typefi automation in a familiar environment. Since Typefi Designer utilises Adobe InDesign, publishers can quickly and easily upgrade any existing InDesign documents to Typefi InDesign templates, without requiring designers to learn new tools or complex coding, and to scale quickly.
TIP Typefi also offers a sophisticated Event Script architecture that augments native InDesign extensibility, providing designers with even more opportunities to save time and effort.
Do even more
In addition to our core automated publishing platform, Typefi offers a range of specialised standalone tools:
- Typefi AutoFit: a free plug-in for Adobe InDesign that enables designers to create complex and responsive layouts more quickly and with less work.
- Typefitter: a subscription copyfitting plug-in for Adobe InDesign that automatically fixes bad breaks, overset text, short lines, unbalanced columns, and more.
- Standards Cloud: a fully web-based platform that enables National Standards Bodies to produce high-quality standard adoptions.
- Blinkenlights: a standalone product and an optional component for Typefi Server that provides job queuing and load balancing for Adobe InDesign Server.
Typefi AutoFit
Typefi AutoFit gives InDesign CS2 and later the ability to automatically resize text frames when you add, delete, or edit text (Adobe added a similar feature with InDesign CS6). In addition to auto-sizing text frames, Typefi AutoFit gives you a new tool to automatically transmit or repeat a resizing from a ‘parent’ object to one or more ‘child’ objects.
You can download Autofit from our website.
TypeFitter
Typefitter is a subscription copyfitting plug-in for Adobe InDesign that automatically fixes bad breaks, overset text, short lines, unbalanced columns, and more. Use TypeFitter to:
- Automatically copyfit without jeopardising quality: Typefitter’s algorithms search for the smallest possible change that fits your text.
- Create and edit custom typefit rules: Adjust which text and attributes are modified, and set limits on how much Typefitter can change.
- Maintain full control: Typefitter allows you to manually tighten and loosen text where needed. It also tracks all changes and highlights modified text, so you can easily remove changes where required.
You can download a free trial of Typefitter from our website.
Standards Cloud
Standards Cloud is a fully web-based platform that enables National Standards Bodies to produce high-quality standard adoptions using the same technology and source XML that ISO uses—no technical or typesetting expertise needed.
With the click of a button, Standards Cloud wraps ISO content with your organisation’s customised front and back matter to create a seamless national standard ready for distribution in under an hour.
Blinkenlights
Blinkenlights is a standalone product, and an optional component for Typefi Server 8.6 or later that provides job queuing and load balancing for Adobe InDesign Server. In addition to job queuing and load balancing, Blinkenlights enables:
- multiple queues
- prioritised job queuing
- status visibility
- job filtering
- performance metrics
- logging
Blinkenlights is built using a high availability cluster to ensure it can handle high traffic, and that no data is lost in the result of a server failure. It also supports a RESTful API to submit jobs, and control jobs, servers, and queues. You do not need Blinkenlights to run InDesign Server successfully, but we highly recommend it when you have multiple InDesign Server instances.
