Manage your metadata master page

ISO standards are created using the ISO Standards Tag Set (ISOSTS), which defines the metadata structure for all ISO standards.

Metadata often includes information which is used more than once within a publication, such as the title, organisation name, or the ISO standard number. Metadata is also an important component in aiding discoverability and creating accessible publications. 

The ISO provides a list of national body metadata that ISO members may wish to include when adopting ISO standards. Standards Cloud enables you to customise this list via the metadata master page. 

You only need to set up your metadata fields in the metadata customer page once; Standards Cloud will then automatically populate this metadata every time you publish a new ISO adoption.

It is important to make changes only when necessary, and to discuss any proposed changes with our support team.

Set up your metadata master page

To set up the metadata master page, you will need Administrator privileges.

Sign in as an Administrator, and select Metadata in the header to go to the metadata master page. 

The metadata fields in the metadata master page are related to the XML tags in the ISO input XML. When you move your cursor over any metadata section it will show the corresponding XML tag.

 Within the metadata master page you can:

• Delete metadata
• Manually populate metadata fields
• Set metadata fields to auto-populate
• Lock metadata fields
• Add notes as a guide for regular users
• Add custom metadata

Once you have made changes to your metadata master page, click Save. Typefi's Professional Services team will notify you when your updated template is ready for use.

Delete metadata

You can remove the whole metadata section or delete individual metadata fields. 

To remove a metadata section, select the -.

To remove a metadata field, select the Dropdown arrow icon next to the metadata field and select - Remove.

Manually populate metadata fields

Simply type into a field to manually populate that field's metadata for all future adoptions.

You can easily tell the difference between default ISOSTS metadata fields and custom metadata fields: default ISOSTS metadata fields have a yellow background and contain an [Autofill] annotation on the right, and custom metadata fields, including metadata fields you manually updated, have a white background.

Set metadata fields to auto-populate

You can choose to automatically fill fields in your adoption with metadata from the ISO source file, rather than adding your own.

Select the Dropdown arrow icon next to the field and select Autofill on.

To remove the Autofill, select the Dropdown arrow icon next to the metadata field and select Autofill off.

When first setting up your metadata master page, all fields will be set to [Autofill] by default.

Lock metadata fields

You can lock metadata fields to prevent users updating the fields for individual adoptions. Select the Dropdown arrow icon next to the metadata field and select Lock.

You can always unlock the metadata fields by selecting Unlock. 

Add notes as a guide for regular users

Click Add note to help with editing under any metadata field to add instructions for users on what they should enter.

Add custom metadata

To add custom metadata select + in the Custom Metadata section. Complete the Metadata Id, Metadata Name, and Metadata Value for each new piece of metadata.

If you create new custom metadata fields, the Adobe InDesign template needs to be updated to reflect where the metadata should be displayed in the output PDF. You can update the template yourself and upload it to Standards Cloud (Settings → InDesign template) or submit a support request and a Typefi consultant will update the template for you.
