Switching to OpenJDK
Oracle has announced that Oracle JDK 8 builds released after January 2019 cease to be free for commercial use. As an alternative, Oracle has an open source Java available named OpenJDK. With the release of Java 11, Oracle will be providing functionally identical JDK builds to both the commercially licensed Oracle JDK and the open source OpenJDK.
While we bundle Oracle OpenJDK with our Windows installations, customers running macOS or those who run custom Apache Tomcat installations may find the following distributions favorable:
-
Amazon Corretto is a no-cost, multi-platform, production-ready distribution of OpenJDK. Corretto comes with long-term support that will include performance enhancements and security fixes. Typefi runs Corretto internally on production services and Corretto is certified as compatible with the Java SE standard.
-
AdoptOpenJDK provides prebuilt OpenJDK binaries from a fully open-source set of build scripts and infrastructure. Supported platforms include Linux, macOS, Solaris, ARM, and Windows.
-
Oracle OpenJDK is what Typefi builds and packages with our Windows installers. Oracle intends to to continue to support open-source and open standards through the distribution of OpenJDK. Although binaries for Linux are available readily, macOS and Windows distributions require assembly.
Other changes
- Added the ability to duplicate a folder
- Added support for autocompletion in the Add Tag workflow action to display a list of suggested (previously used) values
- Check and report unsupported file extensions for all files in a zip when uploading
- Multiple improvements in our warning and error messages:
- when the workflow specifies an InDesign Server instance that is no longer available
- when an illegal character (
* < > : " / | \ ? ; , ! ^
) are used in filenames before running a workflow - if a Typefi License cannot be saved due to network configuration changes
- Several interface improvements
- allow users to specify any number of days before deleting job content (used to be 7, 30 or 90 days)
- ensured every column in the jobs view has a corresponding entry in the quick search drop-down
- add a label to the logs folder if a job has errors
- show the full name of a user who has a file checked out and added a mailto hyperlink.
- clarify that a name is required for a new InDesign instance
- Removed Extensis as a configuration option for Typefi Desktop Server
- show what the expected input file is for a given action if multiple inputs are possible
- provide a warning if a plugin is installed that requires a newer version of Typefi Server (see Workflow actions compatibility below)
- Fixed an issue where moving files could cause file locking issues
- Fixed an issue where scrolling within a dialog would actually also scroll the content behind the dialog
- Fixed an issue where a login screen would be overlayed on top of the Jobs view if a running job was left unattended while looking at the composition log
- Fixed an issue where the Typefi Server system tray icon would not show after installation of Typefi Server for Desktop
- Fixed an issue
(Unexpected Error 404 - The server returned the following unexpected error: TSS template not found)
where disabled actions within a workflow would still appear enabled in Typefi Writer - Fixed an issue where workflows would fail if the ${input:first} variable is used and the first action in a workflow was disabled (see Working with Actions → Using variables)
- Made some changes to fix some appearance glitches:
- updated CSS to prevent lists of outputs from being cut off
- updated CSS to workaround Microsoft Edge issue that caused icons to appear smaller than expected
- Added a new POST parameter to
/api/v2/files
:unzip=true|false
(for more information on see the Typefi Server 8 API update for Typefi Server 8.6) - Several fixes to the Spanish version

- fixed an issue where a tool tip was cut off when trying to reorder actions in a workflow
- fixed an issue where tool tips were cut off in narrow browser windows
