Typefitter is an automated copy-fitting plug-in that seamlessly integrates into Adobe InDesign. Use it to manually tighten or loosen text, or automatically find and fix overset text, short lines, unbalanced columns, and more.
Follow the steps below to install and activate Typefitter. If you encounter problems or if you have any questions, please check out the troubleshooting section of this guide, or submit a support request.
Download the Typefitter installer, run it, and follow the prompts to install. (If you're not sure whether you're running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows, check out this article.)
Open InDesign. If Typefitter has installed correctly, you will find the Typefitter panel under 'Window > Typefitter'.
Note: Typefitter will work without an activation key for an evaluation period of 20 days.
At www.typefitter.com/typefitter, click on 'Buy now' to go through to the Typefi online store.
Click the 'Buy' button next to your chosen product, agree to the terms and conditions, and complete the checkout process. Your receipt will show your serial number—you will also receive an email with this information.
Open the Typefitter panel in InDesign - you'll find it under 'Window > Typefitter'.
Click the pop-up menu at the top right of the Typefitter panel and choose 'About > About Typefitter'.
The following dialog will appear.
Click the 'Activate' button at the bottom of the dialog, enter your Activation Key (the serial number from your email), and choose your activation method (automatic or manual).
- If the activation key for a newly-purchased Typefitter license fails to work, please wait 10 minutes for the activation servers to synchronise and try again. (See this article for more details.)
- If you receive the error message 'Could not find engine! The error occurred while installing the eSellerate engine. 0XE001004', follow the steps here to activate Typefitter.
Restart InDesign to complete the activation process.
